Using a digital pressure cooker (Instant Pot) to cook food faster with high-pressure steam cooking
Equipment Needed
- instant pot or pressure cooker
- measuring cup
- trivet (usually included)
Ingredients
- food to cook
- liquid (broth or water)
- seasonings
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add trivet to bottom of pot if using
- Add liquid (minimum amount per recipe)
- Place food on trivet or submerged in liquid
- Close lid and set valve to sealing
- Select cooking time using buttons
- Pot comes to pressure (takes 5-15 minutes)
- Cooks under pressure for set time
- Release pressure naturally or quickly
- Open lid carefully - steam is very hot
Professional Tips
- Never fill more than 2/3 full (liquid expands)
- Always have some liquid - needed to create pressure
- Natural release takes longer but is gentler
- Quick release = fast dinner
- Great for: beans, tough cuts, rice, stews, stock
